Can my IP address reveal my home address?+
No, not directly. An IP shows the country, region, and usually the city of your internet provider's gateway — not your street. It can't be reversed into a name or exact address by the public. Combined with other personal data (login email, account history), though, it becomes a stable identifier that can track you across sites.
Why does the location shown here seem wrong?+
City-level geolocation is best-effort, especially for mobile networks (your carrier's gateway may be in a different city), corporate VPNs, and anything cloud-hosted. Country-level accuracy is usually high. If it's wrong for your IP, click the Report button to submit a correction.
How do I hide my IP address?+
The most practical answer for daily use is a reputable paid VPN. Tor is more anonymous but much slower. We have a full comparison in How to Hide Your IP Address (5 Methods Compared).
Is using public WiFi still dangerous?+
Less dangerous than 10 years ago because most sites are HTTPS now, but still not zero-risk. The cafe / airport / hotel can see which sites you visit (just not the contents), and there are real attacks like fake login portals. A VPN on top of public WiFi handles the remaining issues. Do you store my IP or build a profile of me?+
No accounts, no per-user profiling for our purposes. Server logs containing your IP are kept for up to 30 days for abuse prevention and then permanently deleted. Full details on the Privacy page.
I see both IPv4 and IPv6 on the homepage. Is that normal?+
Yes, on modern networks. Most ISPs and mobile carriers provide both. Your devices use whichever is best for each destination, with a mild preference for IPv6. This is called "dual stack" and is the default for new internet connections worldwide.
